Built in 1890 of Florida pine and cypress; typical Victoria style. Home of James A. McFaddin (1840- 1916), loyal citizen of Texas Republic and pioneer stockman. He married Margaret Virginia Coward in 1861 and served as an officer in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Moved from Refugio to Victoria County in 1876. Here he introduced barbed wire and Brahma cattle; he also founded the town of Mariana (now McFaddin). His brand "M6", registered in 1840, is still alive.
